School-Family-Community Partnership Meeting Minutes

September 2010

PTC Meeting September 14, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 6:42 pm by Vice-Chair AquilinaLestenkof.

There were 13 adults in attendance representative of community members, teachers, and School Board.

In Mrs. Stacks’ absence (traveling on school business) Mr. Stacks began the meeting with the powerpoint presentation of the state of the District.  Highlights included:
*Both schools made AYP- annual yearly progress that shows student
improvements.
*St. Paul School scores reflected that students are improving and making gains in reading, writing, and math.
*Outlined the new staff assignments
*Outined the numerous Grants that help the school provide the quality
education and programs we currently have available.
*Outlined Serious Concerns:
            -Declining enrollment District-wide
-Potential closure or non-State funding of St. George School
There was a request to share that PPT or a pdf of the presentation with the Entities and/or other interested parties, perhaps upload it to the school website.

Other issues discussed included:
*The group would still like to work toward more parent involvement- both during school hours and with homework as well as with the community meetings.

*Parent –Teacher conferences will be held September 15, 2010.

*The Board adopted Drug Testing Policy is still in effect for all extra-curricular activities.

*Questions were brought up about the potential need for a Superintendent search during this school year.  There is money budgeted and AASB assists Boards with this search.  Nothing has yet been initiated, however it will probably appear on the next Board agenda.

*The group revisited the Career Planning program idea, it was suggested that perhaps the local entities would be willing to assist with funding of developing and implementing a program that would assist our high schoolers as well as recent graduates and young adults.

*A suggestion was made to use a community member volunteer to conduct a structured program for the Jr. &Sr students who would otherwise not be in school during the mornings of the annual testing time.  A community volunteer is essential for this as the exam can only be given by Certificated teachers and all teachers are assigned to test certain grade levels.

*A discussion was held about the Head Lice outbreak in the community.  The current plan is:  Students suspected of having lice will be sent home and encouraged to go to the clinic.  Students entering the building will keep coats/hats/backpacks near them or in plastic sacks, students with confirmed cases will need to stay home until cleared by the clinic, and extra care is being given in cleaning/disinfecting the school areas.

*Adjournment:  8:26 pm.
